THE
HISTORY OF THE GREATER LANSING HOUSING COALITION The mission of the Greater Lansing Housing Coalition (GLHC), a private
non-profit 501©(3) community development
corporation, is to provide affordable housing to people of modest means
and help revitalize neighborhoods. Since 1995 GLHC has acquired, rehabilitated (or newly constructed) and sold more than 100 single-family homes to income-eligible first time home buyers.
The Coalition has 235 rental units and assisted 185 families in purchasing their first home. GLHC is the General Partner in a partnership that owns 23 apartments reserved for low income an/or chronically homeless individuals Each product
is high quality, affordable and available to people of modest means. GLHC controls
two solely owned subsidiary corporations: Edgewood Village in Meridian
Township, a 135 apartment complex purchased in 1994, Jefferson Street
Square in Mason, MI, with 62 apartments for seniors, and Walnut Apartments
(517 N. Walnut St. in Lansing) with nine apartments for people who are
homeless and mentally ill in partnership with Community Mental Health
and Justice in Mental Health Organizations (JIMHO.)
