City of Lansing in partnership with the Greater Lansing Housing Coalition (GLHC) provides programs that allow low and moderate income households to buy their own home.

The City provides funding and technical assistance in support of the Rehabilitation Purchase Program. It helps GLHC acquire vacant residential structures that are rehabilitated and sold to income eligible families.

For information on the Program or the availability of renovated homes available for sale call GLHC at (517) 372-5980.

THE HISTORY OF THE GREATER LANSING HOUSING COALITION

The mission of the Greater Lansing Housing Coalition (GLHC), a private non-profit 501©(3) community development corporation, is to provide affordable housing to people of modest means and help revitalize neighborhoods.

Since 1995 GLHC has acquired, rehabilitated (or newly constructed) and sold more than 100 single-family homes to income-eligible first time home buyers.

GLHC Founder

The Coalition has 235 rental units and assisted 185 families in purchasing their first home. GLHC is the General Partner in a partnership that owns 23 apartments reserved for low income an/or chronically homeless individuals

Each product is high quality, affordable and available to people of modest means.

Founded in 1989, the Coalition has a professional staff of seven and a governing Board of Directors.

GLHC controls two solely owned subsidiary corporations: Edgewood Village in Meridian Township, a 135 apartment complex purchased in 1994, Jefferson Street Square in Mason, MI, with 62 apartments for seniors, and Walnut Apartments (517 N. Walnut St. in Lansing) with nine apartments for people who are homeless and mentally ill in partnership with Community Mental Health and Justice in Mental Health Organizations (JIMHO.)

GLHC’s mission depends on close collaboration with many Lansing neighborhoods which have experienced severe economic disinvestment: Genesee, Westside, Renaissance, Moores Park, River Point and Baker-Donora.

Major financial partners include the City of Lansing, Michigan State Housing Development Authority (MSHDA), Local Initiatives Support Corporation (LISC), Great Lakes Capital Fund, National City Bank, Dart Bank, Granger Foundation, Greater Lansing Association of Realtors, Fifth Third Bank, and Flagstar Bank.
